SHINING LIGHT GYMNASTICS
COMPETITION TEAMS

(For Girls Ages 4-16)

Gymnastics provides a wide array of benefits, spanning from physical to mental and emotional. Participating on a gymnastics team is a wonderful experience when the program, the athlete and the parents are all working toward similar goals. Being a member of one of our teams requires a lot of dedication and hard work, but it also provides an opportunity to create camaraderie that can last a lifetime.

Our goal is to provide the mental and physical discipline needed for competition within a framework of positive reinforcement and encouragement.

Our teams are an invitation-only activity for students who demonstrate specific talents, drive and discipline. Students may be invited to try out for one of our teams by a team coach. Our various teams and team levels have differing requirements in terms of dedicated time and cost.

Pre-Team

The Pre-Team program is an elite group of young girls who demonstrate skills and traits required to pursue competitive gymnastics. This is a transitional program designed to prepare the athletes for one of our competitive teams by ensuring that they have what it takes to compete. Here, the gymnast will learn the proper skills and techniques, thus creating a strong foundation required for the competitive gymnastics program.

The required training for our Pre-Team gymnastics is 1.5-3 hours per week.

USAG Team

USA Gymnastics is the national governing body for gymnastics in the United States. Established in 1963 as the U.S. Gymnastics Federation, USA Gymnastics is responsible for selecting and training national teams for the Olympic Games and World Championships.

Our USAG gymnastics team levels compete regionally in the USAG program. Our USAG sanctioned competitive team requires the highest level of commitment. All gymnasts are placed on a specific team, designed to help them grow and develop, based on their individual skill level, not on their age. There are currently 9 different levels of our gymnastics team who compete in 6 to 10 regional meets a year. Attendance is mandatory. Team candidates are selected from our Pre-Team class or by an appointment for evaluation.

Compulsory Team Levels 3 – 5

In the Compulsory competitive levels, routines are choreographed by USAG meaning that every child in the country will perform the same routine based on their level. The gymnasts compete at USAG invitational meets and receive awards based on their scores at each event in their age level and division.

Compulsory levels are progressive in nature, building upon skills acquired at the previous level. The focus is on learning how to compete while they begin training on more advanced skills. The program allows all gymnasts to advance at their own pace. Gymnasts must develop a strong foundation of basic skills and perfect them in order to advance to the next level.

Level 3

The required training for our USAG Level 3 gymnastics team is 8 hours per week.

Level 4 – 5

The required training for our USAG Level 4 – 5 gymnastics team is 12 hours per week.

Optionals Team Levels 6 – 10

In the Optionals competitive levels, routines are not choreographed by USAG meaning that gymnasts perform their own individual routines expressing their own style and personality. These levels are still required to perform specific skill sets.

Just like our Compulsory Levels, Optionals are progressive in nature, building upon skills acquired at the previous level. The focus is on learning how to compete with their own unique flare, while they continue training on more advanced skills. This program allows all gymnasts to advance at their own pace. Gymnasts must develop a strong foundation of basic skills and perfect them in their current level in order to advance to the next level.

Level 6 – 10 Optionals

The required training for our USAG Level 6 – 10 Optionals gymnastics team is 16 hours per week.
